Check the spark plug wires and make sure they are on the right cylinder. The firing order is 18436572, counterclockwise on the cap. If that is correct, then the distributer could be installed 180 degrees off.

If the engine has been running without a leak and now it's started you probably have a bad water pump.AnswerMost likely what you have is blown intake manifold gaskets allowing the leak.The engine will still run smoothly but is allowing water to leak and worst of all,allowing air into the cooling system.This is a problem because these particular engines will not self bleed the air out when you add more water to the radiator.this WILL cause the engine to overheat without warning and ruin an otherwise good engine.PARK the car until the gaskets are changed and cooling system properly bled.I recently changed three of these 3100 sfi engines out for customers due to this problem.

You will need to replace the intake gaskets to fix your problem. The HEAD GASKETS will not be your problem.
