∙ 16y agoThey were put into place to bring justice out of the chaos of WWII, to establish a sense of morality to an immoral period of time, and to reunite a world in desperate need of reconcilitation (It also was intended as a forum to hang a few genuine war-mongering, sadistic bastards.)

The Nuremberg trials were a showcase, before much of the politics were involved. They were trials performed by the conquerors, subsequently there would be many trials convened by the Germans themselves.
In Japan the philosophy was much more to assist the country in recognising, coming to terms with and moving on themselves.
