Ash was the wood that was most used to make the English longbow. Yes, Ash was used, but the preferred wood is Yew. Ash is used to make the arrows certainly.

I looked this up and it seems oak was the primary wood used. Other woods didn't really come into use until the 18th century and oak was the only one listed going back to the middle ages.
