You should use one of two oils: Shell Rotella T 10W30, or Chevron Delo 400 10W30. Both of these oils are actually designed for heavy-duty diesel engines. They're good for aircooled VWs because a heavy-duty diesel runs about as hot as an aircooled VW engine does.
