It's the oil/fluid that is in the rear drive axle (and front axle on 4x4).
I have a 1951 John Deere A that is seeping oil out of the one axle out close to the wheel. Do I need to remove the the rearend and the big bull gears and get to them from the inside? Paul Lehman
I just did this today. Remove the drain plug located on the bottom of the rear axle. The reservoir contains 5 qt's when full. Add transmission fluid to the filler hose located just above the dash under the hood.
No.
On the right side of the frame, above the front axle.
There is a plug on the back to the right of the seat behind the axle.
pull the plug on the bottom of the axle or remove the cover if there ins't a drain plug.
Axle seal is bad and needs to be replaced
It all depends on what part is leaking what fluid. Brake cylinder would leak brake fluid. Axle seal would leak gear oil.
Fluid level too high, water in fluid, axle overheating.
synthetic gear oil
yes
