In a blast furnace why are the coke and limestone needed?

coke acts as a reducing agent. It combines with oxygen to form CO which in turn reacts with iron ore to give metallic Iron. Carbon present in coke also produces heat in all oxidation reactions which melts down the metallic iron. Lime stone (CaCO3) breaks down to CaO upon heating which reacts with SiO2, the main impurity, to flux it out of the furnace

How do you get pure iron and what is it used for?

we get it from reacting it in a blast furnace firstly we react oxygen and carbon coke to form carbon dioxide which then reacts further with the coke to form carbon monoxide which then reacts with oxygen from the iron oxide to form carbon dioxide and pure molten Iron. And we use it occasionaly in medicine as iron supplements or in anylytical chemistry.

What is the word equation for coke in a blast furnace?

(Extraction of Iron in a Blast Furnace: Step 1 and Step 2)Coke reacts with oxygen from the air to form carbon dioxide and a lot of heat.Carbon + Oxygen -> Carbon Dioxide + heatC(s) + O2(g) -> CO2(g)Carbon dioxide reacts with more coke to form carbon monoxideCarbon Dioxide + Carbon -> Carbon MonoxideCO2(g) + C(s) -> 2CO(g)

The purpose of adding coke to the iron ore in a blast furnace is?

COKE acts as a reducing agent. It combines with oxygen to form CO which in turn reacts with iron ore to give metallic Iron. Carbon present in coke also produces heat in all oxidation reactions which melts down the metallic iron.LIMESTONE (CaCO3) breaks down to CaO upon heating which reacts with SiO2, the main impurity, to flux it out of the furnacebasically, the limestone is there to remove acidic impurities

Do mentos only react with Diet Coke?

no, it reacts with all drinks that have carbon dioxide in them. like sodas such as fanta, Pepsi, root beer, all of those.

Does root beer work better in a Mentos explosion?

because the ingridient that works in coke is in root beer and it reacts to the mentos o ya!

Why does Mentos make the coke react?

Mentos fizz because of the nucleation sites on the surface of the Mentos. These are basically microscopic holes and when it comes into contact with the coke all of the dissolved carbon dioxide condenses and form bubbles that wear away layers of the mentos where more nucleation sites are accessible by the carbon dioxide. This is why the reaction is not repeatable with the same coke or a flat coke.

What happens when NaCl-salt is put in carbonated water?

Basic infoBasically, it reacts and a big amount of gas (CO2?) is released. It has a similar effect to when you put Mentos in a bottle of coke.

When oxygen is blown into pure iron to remove impurities Wont it react with Iron itself to give iron oxide?

Oxygen is not blown into pure iron, it is blown into molten iron ore (many impurities) and coke has been added to the mix as well. the coke reacts with the impurities and the oxygen to purify the iron ore.
