Proteins that are found in the body are divided into two main groups. a.) Structural proteins -These are proteins which are necessary in formation of an organic substances, parts, structures and other basic parts of the body. examples of these are collagen (which is found in the bones), keratin (a pigment in skin and others). b.) Functional proteins -These are proteins that performed a specific function in the body Examples of these protein are : Haemoglobin - an iron containing pigment in the blood which carries oxygen to the brain. Actin and Myosin - the fluid that is involve in the proper contraction of arm muscles.

Some proteins are in your body because they help your body in four main functions:

1) Helps with movement and structural purpose in bones, muscles, ligaments and tendons

2) Functions as enzymes

3) Help transport substances across cell membranes

4) Act as chemical messengers through hormones.

Aside from fat lipids, most structures in your body consists of protein. Much of your cell structure, enzymes, and hormones are made of different protein structure.

A protein is a combination of amino acids. The body uses 21 different amino acids and can manufacture roughly half of these. The amino acids that it cannot manufacture on its own, it needs to consume via food; these are called "essential" amino acids because the body must consume these. They are:

Isoleucine

Arginine*Lysine

Methionine

Phenylalanine

Threonine

Tryptophan

Valine

Histidine*

Tyrosine*

Leucine

What part of the body would be high in protein?

The parts of an animal which yield the richest sources of protein are generally found in the areas of the body related to locomotion.

Where is the protein found in a cell?

Protein is found in virtually every part of a eukaryotic cell. Here are a few examples: Nucleus: DNA is bound by histones, a 4 subunit protein. Nuclear pores are also proteins. Endoplasmic Reticulum: Ribosomes are proteins. Cytoplasm: The cytoskeleton that holds the shape of cells is made of protein filaments. Mitochondria: ATPase and all of the cytochromes are proteins. Plasma Membrane: Surface proteins help the body identify the kinds of cells.

Why is all iron in the body found in iron protein complexes?

To discourage the growth of bacteria.

What foods are high protein foods?

Proteins are necessary for the proper function and growth of our bodies. They can be found in many different kinds of foods such as meat, eggs, beans and dairy foods. It is important to know that not all protein is the same, as the amino acid composition varies from protein to protein. The human body needs 10 essential amnio acids which it does not produce on its own, so consuming protein from a variety of sources is critical to good health.
