your 3rd to 4th shift sensor in your trans needs to be replaced.
My guess is the extra gentle manner it has been driven. But the clutch or the torque converter going out may now be the problem.
it depends on the size of the diesel engine going in so yes and no
It would probably fit but you are going to need to use a much stronger front end for the weight, and stronger transmission and rear end for the power.
If it's the same type of transmission that came from/is going on the same engine, yes.
Just now am having one replaced on a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel. At the dealership it is going to be right at $3500 and will have a 3 year/100,000 warranty versus rebuilding ours with a 12 months warranty.
depending on the engine size the transmission is going to be 42rh with v-6 or a 46rh with a v-8.
it is located on the side of the transmission under the input speed sensor with 18 wires going to it
A gas engine produces its own vacuum, where a diesel engine has to have vacuum artificially produced. Your transmission problem doesn't sound like a vacuum problem. Have you checked the fluid level? When was the last time you changed the transmission fluid filter?
Hopefully it's just a seal going bad, and not damage to the case or shafts...
drivers side , going in to the the transmission, it looks like a little motor attached to the tranny
First check the linkage for the 2000 Dodge Neon transmission to make sure that it is fully going into reverse. If it is, then the transmission needs to be taken out and pulled apart to see what internal parts have failed, and how to fix it.
THE NEUTRAL SWITCH ON A 97 DODGE 2500 IS LOCATED ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE TRANSMISSION TOWARD THE MIDDLE JUST ABOVE THE OIL PAN. THERE WILL BE THREE WIRES GOING TO IT, WITH A BLACK PLUG.
