Is HTML a protocol that defines how webpages are transmitted?

HTML is not a protocol, it is a language. HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language. The protocol that webpages go through is HTTP, which stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. HTTP can be seen on the front of every webpage (e.g. http://wiki.answers.com)/.I had never thought of HTML as a protocol but according to the CCENT/CCND ICND1 book by ciscopress.com, an official book of Cisco, HTML is a protocol. By definition, a protocol is simply a set of rules that determine the format and transmission of data. HTML does define a format for how data is diplayed even though it is transmitted via HTTP.

Does the computer programm spark have semantics?

All programming languages have semantics. The semantics of a language are the rules of a language; it defines the meaning of symbols and tokens in the language, and how they interact with each other. Spark is certainly no exception to the rule.

What is the significance of DOCTYPE in HTML document?

An HTML DOCTYPE defines which version of the language you are using, and let's the browser act accordingly. The DOCTYPE in an HTML document is an idea borrowed from XML. The DOCTYPE file defines the rules that the language has to follow. By making sure you've declared the doctype in an HTML document, you let the browser know how you're expecting that HTML to be treated. In an ideal environment, adding a doctype will allow you to be sure of exactly how the code will be rendered by the user's browser.

When saving a word document as a webpage why does the text scatter on page?

The most common reason for the webpage to not look the same as your Word document is that the webpage is not constrained by the same rules or margins as your Word document. For example, webpages do not include multiple spaces in a line. If you use the spacebar to organize the format on a page, the browser will render 20 spaces as a single space.

Can you link more than on CSS style sheet to an HTML document?

Yep. You can add as many as you'd like. That's where the "cascade" comes in. Firstly, all rules are superseded by later rules, or more specific rules. Then Linked rules are superseded by embedded rules which are superseded by inline styles.
