The Leroy Neiman Print on canvas was given to the Charter Members of the Lake Geneva (WI) Playboy Club that opened around 1968-1969. I own one of these prints.

The print was also part of a gift package at Christmas 1967 which included, for $25, a Playboy Club Key, a bottle of wine and the print. The original is part of a total of 10 panels now owned by Norton Herrick as part of his private collection. The print I believe is of panel #9 which is only one with a Unicorn in it. The narrative which accompanied the print describes the method of capturing a Unicorn as "Unicorn Lap Capture" In this method you expose a virgin to the wild and a Unicorn will come and lay his horn in the virgin's lap. The fact, as the narrative goes is that since no Unicorns have been seen or captured raised the possibility that either Unicorns or Virgins don't exist. So much for Playboy humor

The rarity of a Leroy Neiman 1967 print of "Unicorn Hunt" would depend on the edition size and the current availability in the market. Leroy Neiman prints are generally considered valuable due to his popularity as an artist, so obtaining an original print from that time period may be rare and highly sought after by collectors.

How can you find the value of a 1967 Leroy Neiman print of a Fox hunt?

I have this print and was told that it is actually a canvas transfer. Worth a few hundred dollars but probally not much more than that. In addition, it was a freebee given out as part of a Playboy Key gift package in 1967 so I suspect you may be right as I don't think that Playboy was going to give out an expensive print with a Playboy key a bottle of wine an the print for $25. You are correct in that the print of this painting is valued at a few hundred dollars. A limited edition serigraph of this painting would fetch somewhere in the neighborhood of $4,000.

How do you determine the value of leroy neiman posters?

The value of art depends on many variables. Is it actually a poster, or is it a print? What is the title? Is it limited or open edition? If it is limited, what was the size of the edition? Has it been signed by the artist? What sort of condition is the art in? In general, posters are the least valuable. If you know the name of the poster, you can look it up on the internet. Based on the condition of your particular piece, you should then be able to make an educated guess on the value.

How do you tell if your Leroy Neiman is a serigraph or lithograph?

If the print is pencil signed and numbered in the margin outside the image, it is most likely a serigraph. If there is a signature within the image AND a pencil signature, this is called a plate signed lithograph. If there is no pencil signed signature, it is most likely a poster. As a major dealer, LeRoy only signs serigraphs in pencil. Everything that is a poster is signed in pen or felt pen. Also a poster is smaller than the graphic. The poster is obviously 1 dimensional, and the serigraph looks like it has paint on the paper. In addition, the poster is an offset image of the original. So, you can see the actual brush strokes as in a photo. Whereas, the serigraph is reproduced by the printer and therefore, you will not see actual brush stroke marks.
