Mexico is widely believed to be an arid country, but this is not the case. It has a vast territory, where almost 12% is used for agriculture. This means 232,761 square kilometers (89,869 sq mi), which are almost the size of the whole United Kingdom, are used to grow food and cash crops. Also, due to its topography and extensive territory (1,972,550 square kilometers or 761,606 square miles, ranked 14th largest worldwide) Mexico has one of the world's most diverse climates. Therefore, growing seasons mostly depend upon specific regions:

  • Tropical and subtropical fruit & vegetables (mangoes, tomatoes): June-August
  • Grain crops (corn): May-September
  • Temperate vegetables (apples, pumpkins): August-March
