The circuit is powered by alternating current I assume.

In AC circuits adding a capacitor changes the power factor.

Power (Watts) = Volts x Amps x Power Factor

The capacitor increases the power factor.

If the Power (Watts) and Volts stay constant then as the power factor increases then the current (Amps) must drop to maintain the equation.

Inductors cause the current to lag out of phase behind the voltage. Capacitors cause the current to lead the volts out of phase thus bringing the volts and current and voltage back into phase with each other when there is an inductor in the circuit.
