Phosphorus (15)
is it magnesium?
Something that will burn spontaneously when exposed to air.
it may spontaneously ignite upon contact with air
what will happens to a plant exposed to air
With traces of P2H4 present, PH3 is spontaneously flammable in air
Camphor is a sublimable substance, so it sublimes after some time when exposed to air...
Something that will burn spontaneously when exposed to air.
Pure potassium (Element K on the periodic table) Is the most reactive metal. So reactive that it will spontaneously oxidise when exposed to the air and will explosively combust when placed in water.
Copper (Cu) is the element that turns green when exposed to moist air.
phosphorus
The compression in the cylinders is so great that the fuel/air mixture ignites spontaneously (before the spark plug fires)
Because it is very unstable. It spontaneously combusts when exposed to the air.
Iodine is the element that undergoes sublimation when exposed to air.
Spontaneously Combustible
Red phosphorusis not stored under either water or oil. It is rather safe, although friction can convert it towhite phosphorus. Red phosphorus is used in some matches. It is white phosphorus that is the real nasty one. That is stored under water. White phosphorus ignites spontaneously in contact with air. That is the element used in some military munitions.
The match head contains sulpur and an oxidising agent and they have to be struck against a special surface to make the flame. The special surface contains sand, red phosphorus and a binder. When the match is struck, friction is gererated as a form of heat and the red phosphorus turns to a white phosphorus vapour which ignites spontaneously on contact with oxygen in air. The sulphur starts to burn and ignites the match stick
Iodine
The sparks are caused by the rapid oxidation of the small flecks of stone. Iron is one such element that will spontaneously combust when exposed to oxygen, so when two rocks are struck, little flecks of highly reactive material are catching fire in the air.
