He co-founded Solidarnosc (Solidarity), the trade union in communist Poland and led the fight for free trade unions. He was arrested for a period in the early 1980s but continued activism and led negotiations for free elections in 1989. Eventually he gained political power as the President of Poland, shortly before the fall of the USSR in 1991.

He co-founded the Solidarity movement in Poland - campaigning for the recognition of the trade-union movement by the Polish government. The aim was to give workers more rights.

It was when the polish were weak after WW1 and then lech walesa (pronounced lekh valensa) the leader, made Poland a stronger econamy and a democratic country. What was one thing Germany did to show that it was warlike?

The Nazi Germans invaded Poland and murdered thousands of Poles. They kicked the Poles out of their own country and moved Germans into Poland. They murdered thousands of Jews and relocated thousands more to the relocation centers until they completed the concentration camps. Many Poles managed to escape and make it to freedom. Those Poles joined the Allies to defeat the Nazis. Many Poles left in Poland started up the Underground Resistance. The Poles who escaped manage to inform the French and British about the atrocities the Nazis were doing in Poland. They told them that most of the remaining Poles were made to do slave labor or else they would be shot.
