The producers in a ecosystem have the greatest biomass. These are grasses, shrubs and trees. Algae come under this classification as well. Without the consumers, the ecosystem would not exist.

But the main reason the answer ants don't have the largest biomass on earth is that ants are not a single species. Ants are a taxonomic family with more than 14,000 described species and subspecies, so it's really unfair to compare their biomass with, say, leopards or bull frogs. Or humans or Antarctic krill.
