AnswerYou only get one type of magnetron it is the one that is used in microwave ovens, radio and radar communication, it is classified as a diode because of the fact that it don't have a grid like a triode tube only a cathode and anode, but you get hundreds of models and manufacturers

There are 3 (three) types of magnetron design: "hole and slot", "vane" and "rising sun" the names come from the anode cavity cut out shape. The anode is the outer larger metal once you remove the permanent magnets. The hole and slot has small circular chambers "holes" with slots directed to the center. The vane has trapezoidal shape chambers with the opening facing the center. The rising sun has rectangular chambers with of alternating depth radiating from the center. It looks similar to the rising sun pattern from the WWII Japanese flag. In all the cathode is in the center and the theory of operation can be found in "NEETS Module 11: Microwave principals" (a military electronics training manual).
