1.) Before Lewis met up with Clark, he began the expedition on August 30, 1803 in Pittsburgh PA.

2.) Lt. William Clark would offer to join Lewis on the expedition weeks later on October 13, 1803 at Camp Dubois (in present-day Indiana).

3.) At the time of the expedition, Lewis was 29 years old and Clark was 33.

4.) They would spend their first winter at Fort Mandan at the present site of Bismarck, North Dakota.

5.) On Nov. 27, 1804 they built and stay at Fort Mandan and met Sacajawea and her husband Toussaint Charbonneu.

6.) They landed at the mouth of the Columbia River, Astoria, Oregon on November 5 1805.

7.) The explorers began their journey home on March 23, 1806.

8.) On July 3, 1806 after crossing the Continental Divide, the Corps split into two teams so Lewis could explore the Marias River.

9.) Lewis and Clark stayed separated until they reached the confluence of the Yellowstone and Missouri Rivers on August 11, 1806.
