For the early visitors from Europe it was a wild and wonderful panorama of mountains, Coastlines and bays occupied by exotic peoples and animals with soils ready to produce crops for export. It was a Heaven on Earth needing only the power of the British Empire to prepare it for a rightful place as a part of that Empire.
