molecules without permanent dipole are called Raman active molecules
Several variations of Raman spectroscopy have been developed.· Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS)· Resonance Raman spectroscopy· Surface-Enhanced Resonance Raman Spectroscopy (SERRS)· Angle Resolved Raman Spectroscopy· Hyper Raman· Spontaneous Raman Spectroscopy (SRS)· Optical Tweezers Raman Spectroscopy (OTRS)· Stimulated Raman Spectroscopy· Spatially Offset Raman Spectroscopy (SORS)· Coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS)· Raman optical activity (ROA)· Transmission Raman· Inverse Raman spectroscopy.· Tip-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (TERS)· Surface plasmon polaritons enhanced Raman scattering (SPPERS)
It is determined by whether the molecule is polar or nonpolar. Nonpolar molecules do not absorb radiation in the microwave region; therefore, they are microwave inactive. Polar molecules are microwave active.
active site
The substrate.
It is known as the active site.
In the Raman effect, a photon is scattered inelastically (meaning it has a different, lower, energy after scattering than before) from an atom or molecule, causing excitation, i.e., raising an electron to a higher energy level. In the Compton effect, a photon is scattered inelastically from an atom or molecule, causing ionization, i.e., ejecting an electron from the atom or molecule.
It depends what you are looking for. There are online databases of Raman spectra for minerals, for example, e.g. https://www.fis.unipr.it/phevix/ramandb.php For characteristic functional groups/molecules and their peaks, it is better to consult a textbook of Raman Spectra, within which you can find tables of peak assignments - take a visit to the library!
An IR Active stretch simply means that the vibrations of the molecule result in an overall dipole of the molecule. If a stretch has a dipole, it is IR active. If a stretch does not have a dipole. then it is IR Inactive.
Active transport requires energy to move a molecule.
