What are four modernizations and open door policy of Deng Xiao Ping?

The four modernisations of Deng Xiaoping are agriculture, science and technology, industry and the military. Within agriculture, Deng implemented a Household Responsibility System that allowed farmers to have small plots of land and keep/sell the surplus. This provided incentive and increased worker productivity, leading to an increase in grain production. The state also started paying more for grain and prices of machinery decreased.

In science and technology, students were sent to study in the US in fields such as engineering and sciences because China needed experts. Centers for research were built/improved and this led to an increase in infrastructure and improved foreign relations. In industry, state-owned enterprises were allowed to keep the surplus after meeting state quotas and this gave workers more incentive; increased producitvity. Small enterprises started being allowed as well. The military was grealty advanced due to advances in science and technology, which allowed for the development of weapons.

Along with this came the Open Door Policy, which opened China up to the West and greatly helped achieve the rapid modernisation China went through. It included trading and learning from the West, and so relations were established between China and other foreign powers.
