There are two flames, a orange flame(sometimes called a safety flame) and a blue flame(sometimes called a heating flame). The orange flame is clearly visible and can be seen to indicate the Bunsen burner is switched on. it burns at a low temperature because of the lack of oxygen that is fed to the Bunsen burner. The blue flame is a hotter flame because of it's rich supply of oxygen however the flame isn't very easy to see.
flames on a Bunsen burner are usually used to heat the chemical(s) in a test tube.
The yellow flame, containing unburned carbon, is considered as bad.
It's hot, for one. The Bunsen burner's blue flame is unusual, however, in that it emits little light, so it can be difficult to see under some circumstances.
A Bunsen burner is designed to produce a focused, hot flame in a way that radiates heat up, and not out. This means it is very useful for heating up a small sample of matter (like in a test tube), but for it still to be safe enough to handle in close quarters.
It caught fire because flames heat up and burn whatever is in its presence. If that's your shirt, then stop, drop, and roll.
To burn blue flames at least twice as much O2 is needed to burn one measured volume of natural gas CH4.CH4 + 2 O2 --> CO2 + 2 H2O

Heat an object or beaker or flask
The two types of flames a Bunsen burner can produce are a luminous, yellow flame and a "roaring" blue flame. The blue flame is much hotter than the yellow flame.
Because of the adjustable air inlet you can get flames of various temperatures.
because when the air hole is open it is letting in more oxygen when closed its only got gas to keep it going
one side shoots out flames
The yellow flame, containing unburned carbon, is considered as bad.
Safety flame medium flame roaring flam

If placed close enough, the flammable substance will burst into flames.
the blue one because oxygen can get to it through the air hole :) hope this helped
The flames turn a wonderful green with some red and blue flames at the bottom try it out if you have a Bunsen burner and don't play with fire
