A wireless network usually refers to a Local Area Network (LAN), for example all of the computers in your home. A dial-up network usually refers to the method in which you connect to the internet through your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

An example using both would be that you have a wireless router at home that connects to a dial-up modem, which allows all of your home computers to share a single Internet connection.

The main advantage is that the location is not constrained physically by a connecting cable, allowing free motion within the area covered by the wifi signal. For example, I use wifi technology with my Electric Guitar and can move about the stage without tripping over any cables and there is no risk of pulling any cable out of its socket. I can also use this computer anywhere in the house or the garden without having to trail cables around.
