You must research the history of Silicon Valley, to understand.

There are movies and books and tons of info on the net about it.

.

The simple answer would be: Bill Gates was never a true IT professional, but he is a Very shrewd businessman. Not even MS-DOS is his creation.

Basically, Bill created an economical behemoth by careful but aggressive management.

.

Now that Microsoft seems indestructible, at least for the moment, Bill does all that he pleases, keeping in mind that he is old enough now to want to retire from active management.

.

I'm not sure if you realize, but Big Wig CEO's crunch numbers all day long so it's sort of like a math game for them.

Anything that seems out of place now is only because it seems perfectly justified on a report sheet, but it's ever so weird in real life.

.

Well, Bill will pass away like all humans and Microsoft strategy will change as the new bigwigs dictate.

.

Eventually, the Open Source community will catch up in the user-friendly and intuitive-automated departments and Microsoft will die out for lack of customers, but that day is not any day soon, and Bill knows it.

.

That's about all I can say.

.

He built it.

He rules it.

The numbers are the game.

It will die off one day.
