Yes there were some mistakes made.In at least 2 cases Allied troops were bombed by Allied aircraft unloading too soon. -When you think of the greater picture, over 14,000 Allied air sorties on that one day, the mistakes were remarkably few.
By chance, some German units were conducting operations there, when the landings occurred. Having a low profile, were the standards of the day, for the D-Day landings; had the beaches received the normal "Shore Bombardments" from the naval big guns, there would have been little to no German resistance on the shoreline.
Because they bombed the American Flag, and killed lots of people.
To forget your history is to be doomed to repeat it. We study history to learn about the few things than our ancestors did right in the world, and the MANY things that they did wrong, in the hope that we will learn from their mistakes. You see, we human beings can ONLY learn from mistakes. But learning from OUR OWN mistakes is painful and dangerous. So we try to learn from the mistakes that other people have made. And past presidents have done a few things right, and gotten a LOT of things wrong. We should learn from THOSE mistakes, so that we can go forward from there and make new and innovative mistakes of our OWN.
Poland was an ally before hand and it would of had been wrong if they just stood there. Plus France was invaded, and Britan was bombed, they were just waiting.
The graves are not at the beach itself but are located in Normandy at a special graveyard. There are close to 40,000 graves the last I heard. I could be wrong because some families have transferred their loved ones to their own nation.
They were mainly picked as being suitable for beach landings and being nowhere near where the Germans expected invasion.n This deception alone caused at least 3 German Divisions to be placed in the wrong area.

It's poorly worded - mistakes are always wrong, so you've got a redundancy there. But basically, it means you chose poorly too many times.
