Of course he was. Coming from a noble family, Richthofen knew some of the enemy pilots. He treated downed pilots with respect and it also speculated that he and some of his fellow pilots did flyovers of a enemy's funeral as a sign of respect. After his death he was given a full military funeral by the allied command and the pall bearers were of the same rank as Richthofen. It is also speculated that is was in defiance of continuing the war with the King and with that defiance put him back into a plane and removed as the supreme commander of the german airforce. Richthofen was so beloved by his countrymen that (this is personal opinion) had he lived the Nazi party may never have come into power.
