Weight in a tribal setting is defined by the environment and age of the individual. For instance Inuits (Eskimo's) are commonly larger in body mass because of insulating fat (Brown adipose tissue production is naturally increased by the bodies exposure to cold temperatures) to protect against the cold, while southern natives are commonly thinner as they need less insulating fats; and in fact during hot months need to shed body heat not retain it.. This is not a cardinal rule however, there are thinner Inuits just as there were (are) thicker Cherokee.

Age also plays a part in body weight, as you get older (like it or not) you gain more body weight from unused energy stores in these fat layers. As a general saying, warmer climate tribes had less fat deposits than cold weather tribes.
