While there were no large corps of female knights, it should be realized that A. Queens Princesses, and other Noblewomen accompanied their husbands on Crusade, it is not known if any casualties arose in this way. as a more of less Propaganda measure, Noblewomen donned armor to rally the citizenry- more or less this has been analogized to Betty Grable ( Ww2 actress) on a tank, for example- Queen Isabella of Spain l45l-l504 qualifies as a (lady Knight) and indeed is sculpted in this get-up on her tomb effigy. she did not die in the field, thankfully, but did accompany the Spanish Army in various campaigns. There are unconfirmed legends of (Girl Knights) as far back as the time of Charlemagne who did get involved in actual combat.. of course we also have the Amazons of Greek days. some day they are going to find the preserved body of a Lady Knight- in Full Armor, with her skirt underneath and probably a very elaborate plumed headdress on her helmet. maybe they will find one in Italy/ there were rumors of the body of an (Amazon Knight) being exhumed on a construction site in the sixties or seventies, unconfirmed.

Evidentally France at the time was a provisional government and was in no position to award medals, distinguished service crosses, etc. The Cross of Lorraine was a patriotic thing, not a sort of Merit badge. In contrast the Girl Knight Bradamante ( Charlemagne era) was bestowed with the Order of the Phoenix and has an unusual design of what appears to be a dead or dying Queen on the belt-buckle of her quite modern Garrison Belt- they date to the Dark ages, worn over the costume. These were both awards of a sort, with governmental backing- that is Lady Bradamante , not Ste Jeanne. Ste. Jeanne, was de-facto Baroness of Rheims following the successful battle for that city- and surprisingly this fact is not registered. They say maid of Orleans, but her role as Baroness of Rheims- somehow is toned down, but not in Rheims!
