Isopropyl is in alcohol. which makes it dissolve. also alcohol dissolves both polar and non-polar substances , and permanent marker is non-polar. which means that it share electrons equally.
I hope this helped ;)
Further explaination:
isopropanol/Ispropyl (or called rubbing alcohol) is a solvent that has polar molecules (molecules with a positive charged molecule that sticks to a negative charged molecule).
If you sniff a sharpie, it has a sharp, alcohol smell, right? Sharpies have n-propanol alcohol, n-butanol, and diacetone alcohol in them. They have pretty similar structures to rubbing alcohol. Most alcohol molecules contain hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon. All alcohol have polar molecules.
There is a "like dissolve like" rule. This means Polar solvent+Polar solvent=dissolve/removal. OR non-polar solvent+nonpolar solvent=dissolve/removal.
The closer the types of molecule and chemical make-ups are, the more likely they are to dissolve or be removed.

Most markers have alcohol-soluble pigment vehicles.
yes it can
A permanent marker is a type of marker pen that is used to create permanent writing on an object. Generally the liquid is water resistant, contains a solvent such as xylene, toluene, or alcohol[citation needed]and is capable of writing on a variety of surfaces from paper to metal to stone
i believe hand sanitzer does.... it depends on the surface. :)
I've soaked clothing in regular rubbing alcohol. Some stains completely disappeared, and others faded. Good luck.
Alcohol works fine anytime I want to remove permanent marker-- poke your finger into a rag and wet with alcohol and begin rubbing the marker ink.
One way to get permanent marker stains out of an item is by soaking a wash cloth with rubbing alcohol and using the wash cloth to scrub out the permanent marker stains.
There are a number of ways to remove a permanent marker stain on jeans. These include using hairspray, rubbing alcohol, milk, and nail polish remover.

Isopropyl rubbing alcohol on a paper towel should suffice.
no because it needs to have a supper strong level of alcohol
Wash it with a soap and water. You can rub alcohol. If the soap and water doesn't work.
We have a Purell dispenser in my classroom. We have found that this alcohol based hand sanitizer will remove Sharpie permanent marker from desk tops. This might not work on fabric, but it is worth a try. VERIFICATION: I know from long experience that alcohol - particularly denatured alcohol (hardware store) will remove permanent marker from clothing, though it may take a couple of applications.
Put some iso propyl alcohol on soft cloth and rub the mark with it.
Not all permanent markers are the same. First try rubbing alcohol (this is usually isopropyl alcohol) or any kind of alcohol that you have. That often works. If it doesn't, then a more serious solvent such as a paint remover may be needed. Of course, if you use paint remover on your painted wall, you will also remove some of the paint and you may need to repaint. But you will definitely get the permanent marker off.
Rubbing alcohol, works great. Alcohol prep pads or plan rubbing alcohol on a Cotton ball.
Credit this one to ID3461356577:"try oxi clean with baking soda or just oxi clean if that doesnt work you cant remove it."If you want to remove permanent marker from vinyl:(not metal)Use a dry erase marker to write over the permanent marker. Get a damp cloth and wipe it away. This will also remove permanent marker from porcelain tile and probably a lot of other surfaces.Any other website that tells you to use alcohol, wd-40, nail polish, etc. doesn't know what they're talking about.
