Check the shifter interlock system. A simple problem like a bad brake light switch can make the interlock not release. Possible fuse or wiring problem also. this is only a guess because of lack of information (Year, make, model, etc) given. Also check the owners manual for bypass instructions if the car does have a interlock system. An interlock system needs the brake pedal depressed to move the shifter.
Shift it on 2H, then "REVERSE" for about 10 to 15 Feet....

If diff lock light is stuck on DO NOT DRIVE IT ON THE ROAD it will break. Ensure shifter is in diff lock off position and slowly drive forward and back in a straight line.
When the vehicle is not running it will not stay in 4x4. The new vehicles of today are not put in four wheel drive by pulling a lever, they are placed in four wheel drive by pushing a button. When pushing that button it engages the small motor in your transfer case telling it to apply pressure either by air or hydrolics. When the vehicle is in the off position it is not telling the transfer case to hold in the four wheel drive position. If the vehicle is stuck in four wheel drive when it is running you need to find out if it is all wheels drive all the time or it is only 2 wheel drive until you place it in either 4hi or 4lo.
Solenoid switch valve latched in the low/reverse position. It means that a valve is stuck in the valve body
This happen to me several times, put the car in reverse (R) & drive in a circle, it will pop out, then you can turn button to 2 wheel drive. Good luck!
Solenoid switch valve latched in the low reverse position. You either have a failed solenoid or a stuck valve in the valve body.
Automatic or manual trans? What am I missing here? Explain! If it is stuck in 3rd gear then it is obvious that it can't go in reverse.
What i do is put it in reverse and go about 10 feet and brake a little hard then put it in drive. it always works for me when that happens
it sounds like you are having the same problems i am having you need to replace the drive belt mine slipped off the idler bearing and stuck in reverse and now i am trying to find out how the belt goes back on
If a 1989 Nissan Sentra clutch pedal quit working and the car is now stuck in reverse, it will need to be towed to a repair shop to fix the clutch. The transmission may also be damaged due to it being stuck in reverse.
Stuck in "Park"? check stop light fuse and stop light switch Try turning key to 1st (unlock) position then shift to neutral to start vehicle and then shift to Drive
