True, if by common and ordinary, you mean common and plebeian. There was a strict class division in Britain, between the aristocratic ruling class and the common people. This distinction persisted in the US, particularly in the cities along the coast. Jackson was the son of poor immigrants and surely was not a member of the old families established families that had come to rule the US.
