I Can"t see how it coud be . The substance is the softest of all minerals and is good for your back, particualrily in hot weather as we now are having. Taklcum Powder is harmless. It is nto intended as a fooidstuff, but has no harmful side effects in the cosmetic role. surelyits use by children and babies is a good point/

No, it is not. The mineral is inert on the skin. It is very finely divided (powdered) in this usage, and other than the possibility that it might clog pores slightly or temporarily, it is harmless. The application of talc provides a smooth surface over which cloth (clothing) can slide, and this reduces chafing, which more than offsets any possibility that it might inhibit the "openness" of the skin.

Is talc powder harmful?

Talc is a mineral based powder. It can irritate the lungs if inhaled, and of course can be quite dangerous if inhaled in quantity. There don't seem to be long term health problems documented, as with asbestos. The lungs do seem to be able to eliminate it. So, as long as you can use it externally without inhaling a noticeable amount, it seems to be safe. With a baby, you will want to apply it carefully, so as to avoid allowing the dust to become airborne as much as possible. We would sometimes lay a washcloth or some such over our babies' mouths to act as an air filter.
