It is not illegal to charge more for electricity that for what you were charged. You should look into your agreement you signed with your landlord to make sure what the agreement states.

Is electricity a negative charge?

A negative electrical charge occurs when you have more electrons than protons (electrons are negatively charged, and if you have more -'s than +'s the overall charge will be negative).

Does leaving on a cell phone cost money?

The carrier won't charge you extra. However, leaving your phone on will use more electricity than turning it off. You will then need to charge it more often, causing you to be charged more by your power company.

Is an electric charge a property of just electricity or is charge a property of all atoms?

Atoms contain both positive (protons) and negative (electrons) electric charges. But in the vast majority of atoms these positive and negative electric charges balance, canceling and resulting in zero total electric charge. When electrons detach from atoms we generate electricity. Where there are fewer electrons there is a positive charge. Where there are more electrons there is a negative charge. When two places have different charges we get an electric voltage. When electrons flow from a negatively charged place to a positively charged place we get an electric current.

HOW DO YOU DISCHARGE ELECTRICITY?

If you touch the charged item to the ground, the charge will go into the ground. This is because static electricity is caused by either having too many or not enough elecrons. When toughed to the ground, the item will either get rid of the electrons or pick more up, making it neutral.

What charge would an ion have if it had more electrons then protons?

The charge would be negative, since electrons are negatively charged.

What is constrast static electricity?

Electrical current is the flow of electrons. "Static electricity" is more accurately called "static charge". It refers to the build up of a surplus of free electrons on a body (negative charge) , or the withdrawl of free electrons (positive charge). As the word "static" means, these charges are not moving, but are held stationary on the body. The measure of charge is the coulomb, which is 1.24 x 1018 electrons. If a charge is moving along a conductor, always from negative to positive, this flow of electrons is referred to as "current". The basic unit of current, is the amp. 1 amp is charge flowing at the rate of 1 coulomb per second.

What is the overall charge when an atom has more protons than electrons?

It has a positive charge.

What is negatively charged?

A negative charge is the opposite of an ion. An Ion with a negative charge becomes an Anion. Normally with a negative charge they are called Electrons. See electrons for more help

What is the charge on an ion in group 17?

protons and electrons are equally charged except that protons are positively charged and electrons are negatively charged, as there are more protons in this example there is a positive net charge

What is a negativiely charged ion?

A negatively charged ion is an atom that has gained one or more electrons and has therefore gained a negative charge.

Does the phone charge faster in the wall or from the computer?

In the wall because we have more electricity there .

The charge an object has when it gained electrons is it a positive charge?

If you mean an atom, if it gains electrons it becomes more negative, so a negative charge. If you really mean an ion, it depends on the charge of the ion.
