A common estimate is that global consumption of plastic bags is over 500 billion plastic bags annually. Yes that's 500,000,000,000 plastic bags used per year. In other words, that's almost 1 million plastic bags used per minute. As if that's not enough, some environmental groups have estimated that up to 1 trillion plastic bags are used worldwide each year. Now, depending on your definition of the word "trillion", that would be 1,000,000,000,000 plastic bags!
TARGET uses over 10000 bags in a week. I know that's a lot
Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Paper bags are better for the environment because they are biodegradable, but in order to make paper bags, more trees need to be cut down. They are also less convenient to carry if you do not have a car. They also rip easily if something leaks inside them, but that is usually a minor inconvenience. Plastic bags are easier to carry, but they take hundreds of years to disintegrate; plastic bags can also kill wildlife- plastic stuck on birds' beaks when they forage through trash can melt in the sun and prevent them from eating and breathing. Animals can also choke on plastic bags, if accidentally swallowed. The compromise: If you have a car, choose paper bags, and after you're done emptying them, save them for garden debris or storing light materials away. If you have to walk to the store, choose plastic bags, but don't throw them away- you can take them with you to use again. An even better idea is to purchase a reusable cloth bag with handles; they are inexpensive, washable, and will not produce any trash. If you're worried about bacteria accumulating from packaged foods such as raw meats, just make sure you wash all your bags between grocery store trips.
Plastic bag's are rubbish, they carry about 3 items. They hurt this planet & Sometimes even cost over 5p... Over 25 billion plastic bags!
Reusing them. For example, instead of recycling or throwing away cheap plastic grocery bags, buy sturdy grocery bags that you can use over and over again.
You can put them over your head and die :P

About 60 to 100 million barrels of oil are required every year for plastic bags. Plastic bags are killing over 100,000 sea turtles and other marine animals because animals are mistaken them for food. The plastic bags are horrible for our environment it causes pollution, which isn't good for humans or animals, well for anything!

Tupperware is much better than plastic bags! A plastic bag is usually thrown away after one use. Tupperware sandwich containers can be bought for a little more money but, in the long run, last longer. A Tupperware container, if looked after, can be used 6500 time over and over again. The water needed to clean your Tupperware is still better than plastic bags.
by killing da asians and putting big plastic bags over big chimneys and dont use plastic
Um. I'm not sure, but if you want to be environmentally friendly about the issue, then you should buy something that can be reused over and over. Like for example, if you want to go shopping to the food market/store you can put all of your groceries in there. And, keep reusing the bag again every time you go there. And, it's good for the environment because the plastic bags won't be polluting the waters that much anymore! And, I think non-woven bags might be able to replace plastic bags. Truly, it might even be better than plastic bags
When you cook directly under a source of heat, you're broiling. When you cook directly over the heat source, you're grilling.
They take so long to break down and because they are lightweight and moisture resistant they can end up anywhere. Some facts: * Around 80 million plastic shopping bags end up as rubbish in our environment each year. * They can be hazardous to wildlife by entangling animals or being mistaken for food. Thousands of whales, seals, turtles and birds die each year as a result of plastic bags. * Plastic bags can block drains, trap birds and kill livestock. * Plastic bags are made from non-renewable natural resources such as crude oil, gas and coal. * 75% of bags are imported into Australia. * Over half of the plastic bags used are from supermarkets.
