The situation of African Americans in the US changed drastically from 1865-1970. The African Americans were freed from slavery and were able to be free. Even though they were free they were still treated poorly but not as bad as when they were enslaved. There was still a lot of discrimination and the Civil Rights Acts wasn't passed until 1964. The Civil Rights Act banned discrimination and segregation in the U.S.
well i know one factor was that segregation ended so the blacks and whites could now live together in the same neighborhoods and interact.
