The gravel and sand filter out smaller particles from the water
by the process of sedimentation it can be separated.
Clay in which the particles can go through the smallest sifters.
I would consider tiny pieces of rock carried by water to be sediment. Sediment is generally clay or sand particles, but any type of rock ground into fine particles can be carried by water. This may include igneous-type rocks (those that come from around volcanoes and the bottom of the ocean).
Chalk particles can be collected by using a filtration process. A filter paper or a fine sieve can be used to separate the dissolved chalk particles from the water. The water can then be evaporated to obtain the solid chalk residue.

Sand is rock or coral that has been broken down by weathering or mechanical means to a fine grain size.
Impurities in the water etc fine dirt and sand (small particles in it)
Suspended load

When the water is pumped into the holding tank, it contains fine particles of sediment that are not yet filtered out as they would be in a city water system. By the time the well water is delivered, most of the particles have settled into the bottom of the tank.
Fog is fine particles of condensed water vapour in the air. These particles reduce visibility similar to dirt on windows and car windshields.
If you only have dirt particles in the water you can go with a 20" Big Blue whole house filtration unit. They usually come with sediment filters and in your case if the dirt is very fine you can get a 1 micron filter and that should remove it all but if there is alot you can go with a dual stage and put either a carbon filter or another sediment.
Dust is very fine particles of soil or ash and soot is very fine particles of carbon.
D. FINE SILT PARTICLES
freshwater minos eat tiny particles in the water that are barley known to be seen. at almost any water surface you put them in has these particles(not in pools or anything that is not in the wild) i am raising some now and they are doing just fine in the river water i have put them in.
