the water will have frozen. When it freezes it expands so in a confined space like a corked bottle it has nowhere to expand and hence bursts the bottle.

If a highly corked glass bottle full of water is left out of doors on a frosty night it will burst because the water contained in the bottle will freeze on a frosty night and convert into ice. There is no room available for the increased volume and this may result in bursting of the bottle.
I think it's to do with the amount of pressure.

Change the wine without a question. May even offer the new bottle for free. The faulty (corked, vinegar like) wine can be used in the kitchen.

To keep it from drying out and letting air seep into the bottle which will make the wine bad in other words corked.
