The United Nations assisted the Bosnian people in solving their own conflicts, but took a more aggressive and involved approach in Darfur. Violence in the Balkans ended as a result of the unified intervention of several countries, but in Darfur only the United States provided military support. NATO countries used military force to end genocide in Bosnia, but the United Nations did not have the authority to end the violence in Darfur. Aid organizations waited until the violence in Bosnia had ended before they intervened, but they were more proactive in preventing violence in Darfur.
