Britain made her final payment to the U.S. on all her war loans in 2006. Part of the payment was British Naval Bases in the Caribbean and elsewhere given to the U.S.govt for a 100 year lease, the u.k handed over all the gold that she had in reserves and continued to pay in cash from exports after the war until 2006 before she was free from all U.S. debts.
