There are many different types of sedimentary rocks. The three main types are chemical, biochemical and clastic rock. Some that fall into these three categories include sandstone, shale, limestone, gypsum, chert, coal, and amber.

There are five types of erosion:

• Water erosion - where water from rain or another source exposes water-sensitive areas which can decay, or the force of very hard droplets which can also erode hard sedimentary surfaces. As water builds up, run-off picks up soil exposing roots and rock underneath, and can lead to destabilization.
• Wind erosion - Excessive amounts of wind can cause topsoil or sand to be blown away and expose soil underneath.
• Glacial Erosion - Snow and ice will melt causing water to run down hills and mountains - this water has the tendency to cause stream ways and ditches.
• Sea erosion - A combination of tidal flushing, salt, water and waves can cause extreme erosion which is common along Coastlines. The continual pounding of the waves due to high winds can break up cliffs, salt can be carried through the winds and speed up the rusting process, and rising tides sweep away anything that stand in their way.
• Soil erosion - A result of gravity pushing down on soil that may rest on hills, as well as water, wind and glacial melting, which can cause soil to wash away and tree roots be exposed.
