It depends upon who you ask and how they define 'founding fathers.' If we limit it to the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence only, then there was only one signer who was a minister: John Witherspoon.

Most all people living in the 18th Century and coming from Western Europe, read The Bible - and most did so regularly. Children did so in school and were taught at home to read it. Getting a College/University degree in 'Christian Studies' to reflect this was not the norm amongst the founders.

Yes, many of the American founding fathers were Christian, we know that by the writing they left behind that told of their internal motivations. They believed themselves to be Christians and they wanted to create a country where people could come and enjoy religious liberty. Not bound to and by a State Church as was the country they had left behind, but a country were there was freedom to worship and serve God as they saw fit.

There is no question that the vast majority of the founding fathers of the US were Christians and had strong religious beliefs. Because the protestant religions all had varied denominations from Puritans to Quakers and everything in between, they wanted the new government to guarantee freedom of religion. It should be noted the the Great Britain they had broken away from was dominated by the Church of England. The first clue as too being "religious" was that the first US president swore to perform the duties of office on a Bible.
