Cucumbers may be started from seedlings, or seeded directly into the garden. Garden formations for cucumbers include hills or rows. For the hill system, plant 3-4 seeds per hill, with seeds 3 feet apart. Rows should be about 6 feet apart. Plant 2-3 seeds approximately 18 inches apart in rows (1/2 to 1 inch deep.) Seedlings should be thinned to one plant every 18 inches in rows and one plant every 36 inches in hills.

For compact spaces, use trellis or Fencing to train the plants growth, or use one of the dwarf varieties available for "container" gardening.
