The water lily disperses its seeds in the water. The flower produces a fruit that floats in water for a while. It then sinks down to the bottom to take root at the bottom of a pond of other body of water.
The lalang disperses its seeds by wind. It has fine hairs or wing like structures to catch wind enabling it to 'float' further away from the parent parent which prevents overcrowding. Overcrowding causes the plants to compete for water, air, space, light, nutrients and others. Usually causing the plants to have worse quality.
Hope it helps :)
