The lymph nodes (glands) that you are referring to are strategically places deposits of tissue that are laden with immune cells that devour foreign material that was floating around in the venous system and moved there through the lymphatic ducts to be destroyed. Now something in those particular glands is causing a larger than usual response, hence the swelling. If the problem is too much for the body's imune system to handle, you should see a doctor.
