I cant seem to get the new pinion gear to go on the drive shaft of my John Deere LA105. Is there a trick to it?

About 10-20 mph. It matters what gear your in.
John Deere recommends that you put Low Viscosity Hy-Gard or Hy-Gard Transmission oil in their Hydro or Gear Transmissions. The Low-Vis is used for factory fill in the Hydro and Hy-Gard in the Gear Transmission.
Mine will go 19 MPH on flat ground.
You can request for someone to build it for you or build it yourself.

That is a GX85 gear-drive rear-engine rider. Manual should still be online. Deere will be glad to sell you one. I post some links below; worked for a Deere dealer for over seven years.
When the transmissions in these tractors get worn, they will jump out of gear. Usually first and third gear will do this first, and if the transmission gets really worn other gears may jump out.
The John Deere 170 garden tractor was produced in 1989 and 1990. It had a gear drive while the 175 was equipped with a hydro drive.
Have to heat the hub with a tour . Use wd40 and wedges between mower housing and stump jumper. loosen the castle nut untill you have 1/4" under it and the seat. Then hit the nut to loosen the tapered spindal. It's usually stuck fast
