Be careful applying olbas oil as it is an oil and can leave stains on cloth/furniture/carpet. Also remember that it's very strong - so make sure you don't mind living with the smell yourself! One of my cats goes nuts for the stuff, will root tissues with it on out of bin etc. so I shouldn't think it would work to deter him.
