This is quite a large debate in Scotland! Most people from Edinburgh, and around the country, pronounce it as 'Holly-rude.' However, many residents of Glasgow pronounce it 'Holy-rude.'

Holyrood Palace, located at the bottom of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, Scotland, is the official residence of the British monarch (currently Queen Elizabeth I) while in Scotland. It has served as the residence of the Kings and Queens of Scots since the 16th century; Holyrood Abbey nearby was founded in 1128 by David I. Visiting monarchs stayed in a nearby guesthouse until James IV constructed a new palace near the abbey in the early 16th century. It was built in its present form starting in 1671. The 16th century apartments of Mary, Queen of Scots and the monarch's current State Apartments are open for tours by the public when the British monarch is not there.
