The rear door lock on a 1996 Chevy Suburban will not open if the mechanism has become jammed or the child lock switch has been flipped. If the child lock has been engaged, they must be unlocked from the front first.
Hatch Lock Airlock
It is assumed that you are referring to the rear hatch glass and lower door. If the hatch glass is not releasing, check the fuse that controls power to the switch and lock. If you are referring to the door iteself, you will probably have to remove the inner panel of the door to access the lock mechanism. If you are not 'handy' with tools you may have to take it to a repair shop or dealer.

Lock on driver frot side is not working
The power locks can only be engaged from the driver's door. You press down on the door lock on the driver's door and it will lock all the doors. Or you turn the key in the lock to the right in the door lock of the driver's door and it will lock all of the doors.
If the remote locks the door properly that tells me that the wiring and the lock solenoids are operating OK. I'm also taking it for granted that the switch you spoke of is the door lock switch on the drivers door. Does the passenger door switch work properly? If so, then you probably have a bad switch on the drivers door. (IMPROVE) You can remove the door lock mechanism from the panel and gently pry open. Carbon build-up is common on the switches. Use a pencil eraser to remove the carbon and ensure the switch functions properly. Re-assemble.
One should pry the lock switch from the door panel and unplug the wiring. Then plug the new lock switch to the wiring and push the button to make sure it works. Put the new lock into door panel
You'll need a professional locksmith to open the lock without damaging the lock and door .
