First you need to know what the tax rate is, and what rate you want to tip at.
For the sake of example, if the tax rate is 6% and you want to tip at 20%, and you spent $13.50 on food, you would do this:
Tax = 13.5 X .06 = .81
Total with tax = 13.5 + .81 = 14.31
(Most people tip on the full bill, tax included.)
Tip = 14.31 X .2 = 2.86
Total with tax and tip = 14.31 + 2.86 = $17.17
