In some parts of Ireland there have been local traditions of having bonfires on other nights of the year, but not so much now as these traditions are dying. The 5th of November, referred to as Guy Fawkes or Bonfire night, is celebrated in Britain and Northern Ireland, but not the Republic of Ireland. What Political traditions and tensions first appeared in the early years of the new republic?

As far as traditions go that had to do with the making of new laws, but the tensions were because of the two political parties of the time fighting about strict and loose construction of the constitution.
