• Many entertainers joined the war effort by enlisting in many branches of the military.
• Some entertainers were not eligible to served in the armed forces but they came up with the concept of "canteens" to entertain and feed the armed forces (including other nations armed forces personnel) The entertainers volunteered to prepare food, serve food, personally meet with the men and women in the armed forces, provide free entertainment and the women would dance with the male troops, sailors, aviators and Marines. Servicewomen could dance with the men.
• The USO, Uniformed Services Organization, provided entertainers worldwide to boost the morale of the service people. Bob Hope went to the most countries during WW2 and other wars.
• The stars and not so famous entertainers donated money, bought and sold war bonds, donated their time and service with auxiliary organizations and the Red Cross. They did fundraisers and special films encouraging people to donate things like hosiery, tires and metal.
• The filmmakers made news clips to inform the public - shown in theaters - no television then. Some went overseas to film and report on the battlefronts.
• Theaters owned by the studios had fundraisers and special movie nights at special prices.
